OK you might have seen my other 3 posts regarding help needed on using some products. Here is the deal, I have finally got the finish somewhat good using the ssr2.5 and orangw pad but the only problem is when I go to a less abrasive compound such as ssr1 or pro polish I introduce scratches again!!!!!!!!!!! I have tried the ssr1 and pro polishwith white, black, and green pad all at speed 6. This is the right speed, right? Why is that I get a better finish with an orange pad and ssr2.5. Shouldn't I be getting better results as I progress to polishing stages. I have gone back and forth on this and can't seem to get it. I am letting the product fully break down so thats not the issue. I am letting both of them go till they are pretty much gone and nothing more on the paint or maybe just a faint bit. Oh, and the orange pad I am using is not a CCS one it is a small one that came with the porter cable. I am going to post up some pics of what I have now after using the SSR2.5 and orange pad.
Could I be having a problem with the CCS pads?? I have a porter cable and the counter weight says to only use with a 5" pad, well the CCS pads are 6.5? This is how I recieved the machine and figured this is correct, is it?
Is it possible to skip the SSR1 or pro polish stage and go straight to the ex-p?
Can someone please help me as I am pulling my hair out with this and should be enjoying this and are beginning to hate it.? I have been messing with this for close to 2 weeks now and need this done by next weekend because there is a car show I'm going to.
HELP???????????
Thanks, Chris

Yes, you can go straight to the EX-P. Do what works for you...

By the way, I'm using 6.5" CCS pads with a PC 7424 also. I was out doing mine today with SSR2 on an orange pad. It left some of the same marks that you had, but not quite as bad.

I went over it again with SSR1 on a white pad and took most of them out. I'm going to hit it up again in the AM with SSR1 and a black pad.

You may be using too much product. Try placing 5 or 6 spots of product on the pad. Just dab the end of the bottle on the the pad so that each spot is about 4-5MM in diameter.

Keep buffing until the paint comes looks clean. In other words, the product will dry and dust slightly, and no more will be left on the paint.

I've tried all different ways and recently found this one to work for me...

Thanks, I will try and use a little less product this go round on the fender and see what happens.
What I don't understand is why I can use a polishing pad or finishing pad with SSR1 or pro polish and get scratches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why does it when I use the CCS pads they always seem to be jerky as if it was out of balance? They also seem to want to grab at times, is this due to to much product?
I will try again this afternoon some time and work on it some more. If anyone has any more suggestions please let me know, Thanks

What year is the car? It could be that if its either older or you live in a dirty location or this is the first time you've cleaned it up in a while, that you needed to claybar it first. Wipe a section down so that all of the dust and spots are gone. Run your bare hand down it. If you feel little bumps or catches, you definitely need to claybar it. That could be the reason why the pad is catching.

As for the pads causing scratching, you may be applying too much pressure. I usually start out applying a medium amount of pressure for a couple of passes and then just barely more than the weight of the PC until all of the product is gone.

Also, Make sure you either change your pads often, or use a stiff brush to remove excess dryed product.

Its a 2004 cobra with 6,000 miles onit and is never driven in the rain!!!! It is spotless and the paint is smooth, I have already claybarred it.
I think it has to do with the product and pads but which one?

Use the SSR1 with a white. When you go to the Pro Polish use a blue pad on speed 3. Using too much product will drive you nuts as well. A little bit of product goes a long way.Be sure you're cleaning your pads after panels. Work in small sections. Put some good music on and try to relax just a bit and see what happens. Also just for giggles do a CD test on your microfibers to make sure they're not leaving scratches behind.

Oh yeah, don't prime your pads with water when you're using the SSR's. That can cause hazing issues.
